I came across this photo on a cleaning expedition earlier today and paused to remember with a smile… The camera had caught a moment of laughter, of unvarnished glee. Pictured are my Uncle Vinnie, his wife, my Aunt Vivian, my mom who’s standing, and just a tiny little slice of the corner of me at about the age of 20.Looking at my mom’s face creased in giggles, my Aunt Viv holding her head, and me with a broad smile reminds me of how silly my Uncle Vinny could be. His language a little salty, irreverent. His stories hysterically unexpected and delightful. It’s amazing to me how even this old photograph conjures up that memory with giggles like effervescence rising inside me. I’m startled at the feeling, seems maybe it’s been a while since my lips tasted the pure joy of a silly, gleeful moment. So free, so soothing. Each of my dears in the picture – my aunt, my uncle and my mom – have, as they used to say, gone on to their reward. So around the edges of the memory of mirth and merriment, there’s a little ache to accompany me today. Nonetheless, another quick glance at the picture, and those laugh-til-we-cried moments come bubbling back to buoy my spirit. If you want to invite laughter into your day, I invite you to bring your memories, your giggles, even your tears and join me in a space of allowing to stir and sooth your soul. With eye crinkles and all my love,Nancy |
